Holy Laughter…….

“It seemed like a dream, too good to be true, when God returned Zion's exiles.
We laughed, we sang, we couldn't believe our good fortune.
We were the talk of the nations— "God was wonderful to them!"
God was wonderful to us; we are one happy people.”  Psalm 126:1-3 Message Bible

Often times man’s laughter is at the expense of others feelings, misfortune, appearances or strange behavior. But God’s laughter deals with absurdities, such as Sarah laughing at the absurdity of her conceiving and bearing a son in her old age, David was to become a king when he was in the field as a lonely shepherd, or Joseph a ruler when a slave imprisoned.   Can you imagine their thoughts?  Do you suppose they chuckled as they looked around at their circumstances?

Holy laughter is the result of a sharp and steadfast faith that can look beyond the present moment and see the future.   Faith requires a determination to believe in the Word of an all-powerful God who makes our human problems look absurd.

Holy laughter is more than a sense of humor!  It is a gift that results from spiritual insight.    A sense of humor can be innate, worldly and cruel.  But the gift of holy laughter is the result of a sharpened spiritual vision and the ability to see God’s unlimited power above our human frailty.

God’s commands to us are often so unusual they catch us and those around us by surprise.  The “surprise,” is the difference between what we think God should do and what He actually does.  When we “KNOW” God can do the impossible we will then laugh at the circumstances surrounding us in the natural.   That is how holy laughter manifest, by our faith.

“He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.” Job 8:21 NLT
